Super Black Market — Will Sell Anything

February 2007

Artist: Super Black Market
Album: Will Sell Anything
Rating: + + + +

Whether they are speaking out against the media or taking a stance against the war, these socially-aware Midwest punks make no apologies for their outspoken views on American culture. Super Black Market takes you on a shriek-filled romp with plenty of attitude in their latest album, Will Sell Anything.

No strangers to the Midwest music scene, this Warrensburg-based foursome include former members of “Koser” and “Dynamo.”

Although they took their name from a Clash album (Black Market Clash), they are more frequently compared to Henry Rollins for their intense, scratchy wailing.

Criticized by some for being “too clean,” the artfully constructed, 13-track release was produced by Keith Kaster with Super Black Market and recorded at Low Key Productions in conjunction with Flying Hellfish Studios. This band has a signature sound that flows through each song, delivering a predictable pattern that makes it difficult to distinguish one track from another. However, Will Sell Anything hosts the occasional would-be single like “We’ll Make Your Ass Dance (To The Death Beat)” and “There’s Going To Be A Party…” and is riddled with intelligent, humorous lyrics.

Pissed off at the government? Sick of the same music video played for hours (and hours and hours)? While “predictable punk” is the first impression, further listening provides a deeper appreciation for Super Black Market’s disquieted message. After playing a few tracks, Will Sell Anything will soon find a permanent home in your iPod.
